Quillan Salkilld turned in an impressive performance in his first UFC main event, submitting Mateusz Gamrot in the first round of their lightweight match at the Meta Apex in Las Vegas on Sunday morning.
Salkilld (13-1) forced Gamrot to tap via rear-naked choke at the 4:25 mark of the opening round. In arguably the most impressive showing of his career, the 26-year-old dominated the contest from start to finish to rack up his fourth consecutive first-round finish.
"I just proved I'm the real f****ing deal," Salkilld said. "That's just how I fight. I don't give a f*** who you are. I'm going to take it to you. I'm not going to be fighting on my back foot, allow him to punch and wrestle. I'm going to use all of the weapons in my arsenal and finish you."
Gamrot fell to 9-5 in the UFC. Salkilld, meanwhile, is on a rocket ship to the top of the 155-pound division. He is 6-0 since earning a UFC contract on "Contender Series" in 2024.
The other main card results saw Carlos Diego Ferreira overcome Billy Quarantillo via unanimous decision in their lightweight co-main event; Yadier del Valle made quick work of Darren Elkins in their featherweight fight; Alexia Thainara upset Amanda Lemos with a unanimous decision win across three rounds in their strawweight clash; and the welterweight opener saw Ty Miller stop Billy Ray Goff in round three.
Next week brings UFC 330 from Philadelphia, headlined by Islam Makhachev v Ian Machado Garry for the Welterweight Championship, and Mackenzie Dern v Gillian Robertson for the Women’s Strawweight Championship.
