Basadien latest to get new deal at Stellenbosch
Flying fullback Fawaaz Basadien has become the second Stellenbosch player signed to a new long term deal this week as the club tie down more of their assets.
Basadien, 27, has been among the Winelands club’s most consistent performers over the last two years and helped them to win the Carling Knockout in December, although was sent off in the latter stages of the final win over TS Galaxy in Durban.
“I owe Stellenbosch FC a great deal of loyalty as the club has added tremendous value to my growth as a footballer,” Basadien said in a statement announcing the new deal, details of which were not provided.

“I believe the club is moving in the right direction, both for me as an individual and for the team, so it wasn’t a difficult decision for me to extend my contract in Stellenbosch.
“The new deal offers me the security and comfort to improve and develop my game even more, as well as achieve more success with the team and further my ambitions of playing for Bafana Bafana.”
Basadien joined from Moroka Swallows in 2022 and is in his second season with the club. He began his career at Cape Town City but failed to break into the first team and had to move to Johannesburg to make his breakthrough.
“As a club, we are delighted Fawaaz will be extending his stay,” Stellenbosch’s Chief Executive Officer Rob Benadie said.
“He has shown tremendous character and quality since joining the club and his recommitment is a welcome boost to our ambitions of achieving even more success together.”
Basadien’s signing comes after goalkeeper Sage Stephens earlier this week also penned a new deal. Late last year, Stellenbosch down Kyle Jurgens, Devon Titus and Jayden Adams, who was in the South Africa squad at the Africa Cup of Nations finals in the Ivory Coast.
