Alvaro Bautista extended his lead at the top of the WSBK standings with a third win in Catalunya on Sunday.
It was the perfect start for the Aruba.it Ducati Factory Team, as Bautista and teammate Michael Rinaldi moved to the head of the race as Jonathan Rea and Toprak Razgatlioglu pursued.
Unfortunately for Kawasaki, Alex Lowes lost the front on turn 10 in the opening lap race, only to be followed by Scott Redding on turn 14.
Axel Bassani continued to punch above his weight with a great pass on Razgatlioglu for fourth and a couple of laps later he went down the inside of Rea for third.
Meanwhile, after five laps, an imperious Bautista continued to increase his lead at the head of the race.
Rinaldi began to unintentionally back up the chasing pack, but eventually, Bassani made a move stick through turn 5 and set about chasing Bautista.
But the four riders in the battle for second chopped and changed positions, until Rea made a big error with 10 laps to go, sending him well wide and relegating himself to fifth. Rinaldi also capitalised on a mistake from Bassani to take back second.
Rea then pulled off an ambitious move on turn 1, passing Bassani and Razgatlioglu with superior breaking. But with five laps to go, he would miss his breaking point and surrender two positions.
But at the front, Bautista finished off a superlative weekend in Spain - where he led every lap - with another comfortable victory.
The win moved the Spaniard 59 points clear of Razgatlkioglu at the top of the riders' championship.
