CHAMPIONSHIP RACE
Nine rounds into the season, Mercedes rookie Kimi Antonelli continues to lead the Drivers' Championship with 179 points, but his advantage has been reduced following a difficult British Grand Prix.
Teammate George Russell sits second on 154 points, only 25 points behind, while Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton is third on 147 points, just 32 points off the lead.
Antonelli dominated the first half of the season, winning multiple races and building a commanding lead. However, reliability issues and a disappointing result at Silverstone have brought Russell and Hamilton firmly back into contention.
In the constructors' championship, Mercedes remain comfortably ahead with 333 points, but Ferrari continue to chip away at the gap following stronger recent performances.
KEY STORYLINES
Antonelli's response - Spa is the perfect venue for Antonelli to bounce back. The young Italian has looked like a future world champion all season, but this is perhaps the first time he arrives at a race weekend under genuine pressure.
Russell's momentum - Russell's second-place finish at Silverstone cut significantly into Antonelli's lead. A strong result in Belgium could turn the championship into a straight Mercedes shootout.
Ferrari's growing threat - Charles Leclerc's victory at the British Grand Prix and Hamilton's consistent podium finishes have revived Ferrari's title hopes. Another strong weekend could place both Ferrari drivers firmly in the championship conversation.
Verstappen and Red Bull - Four-time world champion Max Verstappen sits seventh in the standings after a frustrating campaign. Spa traditionally attracts huge support from Dutch fans, and another strong performance could provide a much-needed boost.
Spa's famous weather - Few circuits create drama quite like Spa. Sunshine in one sector and heavy rain in another can completely transform races and championship battles within minutes.
