Toprak Razgatlioglu secured the biggest margin in Superpole for 15 years as he grabbed a sensational pole ahead of Race 1 of the World Superbike Championship in Indonesia.
The Turkish Yamaha rider bettered Jonathan Rea by more than a second at Mandalika as he set his second new lap record of the day after doing so during FP3.
Teammate Andrea Locatelli narrowly missed out on making it a Yamaha 1-2 by being pipped by Rea at the death.
Rea's teammate Alex Lowes followed just behind Locatelli in fourth place to make it a factory Yamaha and Kawasaki top four.
Meanwhile, Championship leader Alvaro Bautista had to settle for fifth place after a tough qualifying session where he did not have the pace to match Razgatlioglu.
Bautista needs to outscore Razgatlioglu by 17 points in Race 1 to clinch the title, an outcome that seems unlikely following the Superpole session.
Axel Bassani grabbed sixth place for Motocorsa Ducati, followed by Xavi Vierge for Team HRC and BMW's Scott Redding.
