Kawasaki rider Jonathan Rea set a new worldsbk lap record to grab pole position in PortimPortugal ahead of Yamaha's Toprak Razgatlioglu on Saturday.
In the earlier FP3, Razgatlioglu broke his own lap record with a stunning time of 1:39.887sm which is also the first-ever sub 1m40s lap on Superbike machinery around Portimao.
During the early part of the Superpole, Razgatlioglu was five tenths quicker than Rea, but the six-time world champion clawed his way back to post a winning time of 1:39.610, which was +0.162 quicker than Razgatlioglu.
The Kawasaki of Alex Lowes finished third (1:39.859), while in fourth was Yamaha's Andrea Locatelli followed by Loris Baz on his BMW in fifth.
Closing out the Top-10 were: Honda's Iker Lecuona (+0.732s), in seventh was Garrett Gerloff on his Yamaha (+0.887s), Scott Redding (BMW, +0.922s), Alvaro Bautista (Ducati, +0.928s) and in 10th was the Honda of Xavi Vierge (+1.014s).
