Carr to captain the Bulls for 2024 Carling Currie Cup
Vodacom Bulls forward Nizaam Carr has been appointed to lead the side during the 2024 Carling Currie Cup campaign.
Carr, who has captained the Tshwane-based franchise in some Vodacom United Rugby Championship and Investec Champions Cup fixtures, will begin his tenure when the competition starts on Sunday, 8 July against Western Province, in his native city of Cape Town.
Head coach Phiwe Nomlomo says ‘Nemo’ strikes the perfect balance between the young and the more experienced players in the group.
“When you look at the mixture of the squad, we have youth mixed with some experienced players and Nemo becomes the all-important cog for us because he can relate to both sides of the age groups. When you look at the mixture of our leadership group, Nizaam also brings a measured balance there as well and I am sure that they will collectively share the responsibilities over the next few weeks,”
“He is also a player that offers us seasoned experience having played in top competitions locally and abroad, which I am confident has given him plenty of lessons that will enable him to lead us for this campaign.”
Nizaam says the opportunity to lead the herd is a privilege of a lifetime and he will look to tap into his experiences to guide the side in their campaign.
“I am grateful to be trusted with this responsibility, it is an absolute privilege for me and my family,”
“From a young age, I have always admired this club, the players it has managed to pull over the years and how they have all done their part in helping take it forward. I do hope and want to add positively to the rich history of the club and make everyone proud in the competition.”
