Springbok Dillyn Leyds showed his versatility for La Rochelle despite their loss to Clermont in the French Top 14 this past weekend.
The utility back was named on the bench for the fixture but was called on early in the opening stanza to slot in at flyhalf. Leyds proceeded to marshall the troops with aplomb and kick eight points off the tee. La Rochelle would go down 22-13, but Leyds' performance could have put him on Springbok coach Jacques Nienaber's radar.
Elsewhere in the Top 14, Springbok lock Nico Janse van Rensburg started for Montpellier and contributed to their 43-17 win over Pau.
In Toulouse, Springbok flank Rynhardt Elstadt featured in their 37-10 win over Racing 92 for their third victory of the season.
Over in Premiership Rugby, Leicester Tigers captain and former SA U20 star Hanro Liebenberg put in a huge effort in their 41-21 defeat of Northampton Saints. The back row bruiser made 16 carries, nine tackles and beat four defenders while incumbent Springbok flyhalf Handre Pollard - Leicester's latest South African signing - watched from the stands.
Springbok scrumhalf Ivan van Zyl helped Saracens come back from 20-36 down to defeat Gloucester 41-39 in a thrilling affair.
The South African trio of Francios Hougaard, Burger Odenndaal and Nizaam Carr started for Wasps against Bath, holding off a comeback to notch up their first win of the season, winning 31-39.
Finally, South African-born star Duhan van der Merve dotted down for the embattled Worcester Warriors against Newcastle Falcons. The Scotland international's try helped them to a convincing 39-5 victory.
