St George roast Wolkite, Insurance pip Bahir Dar

St George got their BetKing Ethiopian Premier League season off to a great start with a 4-1 win over Wolkite, while Ethiopian Insurance beat Bahir Dar 3-2.

Wolkite's Daniel Demisu scored an own goal in the 20th minute to give St George an early lead.

Wolkite equalised ten minutes later through former Wolaitta Dicha striker Sintayehu Mengistu. 

The two sides went into the break tied at 1-1.

St George were back ahead in the 57th minute through Amanuel Arebo and Abel Yalew increased the tally to 3-1 on 75 minutes.

The rout was completed for St George in the 87th minute with a late goal by Tegenu Teshome as they ran away with the spoils.

The second game was a five-goal thriller, with Ethiopian Insurance getting ahead as early as the fifth minute through Amkr Mudesir.

Bahir Dar were back on level terms in the 16th minute and the teams were all square at halftime.

Bahir Dar soon took the initiative after winning a penalty seven minutes into the second half.

Yared Bayeh converted the spot kick and they managed to dominate the game for the most part.

However, Insurance got back on level terms when Bahir Dar conceded a penalty which was converted by Habib Kemal.

Ashebir Derege then claimed the winner for Insurance near the death.
