The DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) is set to ignite the KwaMhlanga scene, transforming the Solomon Mahlangu Stadium into a vibrant theatre of footballing talent. The stage is set for an action-packed line-up featuring eight teams and four thrilling matches that promise to captivate local football enthusiasts.
The curtain rises on Saturday at 10am with an intriguing clash between Sekhukhune United and Chippa United. Following that, all eyes will shift to the star-studded encounter at 12:30pm, where league leaders Kaizer Chiefs take on Marumo Gallants.
Currently basking in the glow of an impressive start, Amakhosi leads the table after three matches, racking up nine points. Their journey so far includes notable victories over reigning champions Orlando Pirates and marquee rivals Mamelodi Sundowns, with Richards Bay FC falling victim just last week.
Amakhosi's head coach, Vela Khumalo, is keenly aware of the delicate balance between confidence and concentration within his young squad. “We had a good start, and it’s important to remember that we achieved this without our core team,” Khumalo remarked, acknowledging that some players were engaged in national duties while others participated in different tournaments.
“Our team is young, and we must focus on the fundamentals. The key areas are tactical awareness, mental fortitude, and the social aspects of teamwork. If we can sharpen those, we’ll be in good shape,” he added, emphasising the importance of keeping his players grounded.
On Sunday, newcomers Kruger United will face a formidable challenge as they host Orlando Pirates, who will undoubtedly be looking to bounce back from a disappointing defeat against Siwelele last week. That match kicks off at 10am.
The weekend culminates in an electrifying showdown between TS Galaxy and Mamelodi Sundowns at 12:30pm. With Sundowns entering the match as favourites, having chalked up five consecutive victories against The Rockets – coach Tiro Van-Rooyen knows that success won’t come easy.
For those eager to join the festivities, free tickets will be available for collection at the stadium on Friday from noon until late. And for fans unable to attend in person, rest assured that the matches will be broadcast live on SuperSport PSL Channel 202.
