Mamelodi Sundowns veteran goalkeeper Denis Onyango is to continue his international career, named among 28 players for Uganda as they begin the qualifiers for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations finals.
Onyango, who is 41 years old, came out of international retirement in August last year and played in two of the Cranes’ three games at the last Cup of Nations finals in Morocco, where they finished last in their group after losing to both Nigeria and Tunisia and drawing with Tanzania.
His inclusion in the latest squad suggests he is on course to play at the 2027 finals when he will be 42 years old and become among the oldest players in finals’ history.
Uganda, who have been dormant and not had an international fixture since the Morocco tournament, play Tunisia again away in Tunis on 24 September at the start of their Group H campaign and are then home to Libya at their new stadium in Hoima.
Uganda are co-hosts of the next Cup of Nations finals in mid-2027 with neighbours Kenya and Tanzania but still taking part in the pre-primaries.
Following the two qualifiers, they will play two friendlies against DR Congo, away on 2 October and then home three days later.
