Stellenbosch are awaiting work permits for two of their foreign signings who they hope to field in their next Betway Premiership matches.
The Nigerian attacking pair of Kazeem Adeyanju and Arigo Obus, plus Ghanaian goalkeeper Solomon Agbasi have been at the club since pre-season, but their signings have been delayed by their failure to secure work permits over the opening six weeks of the season.
Obus previously played in Rwanda with Rutsiro, who finished bottom of the table in the East African country last season, but his signing has been held up by transfer issues as well as the need for a work permit, according to club officials.
Adeyanju was at Plateau United in Nigeria last season and his permit could come through in time for Stellenbosch’s trip to struggling Kruger United next week.
A work permit has already been received for Agbasi, who went with Ghana to this year’s World Cup as a back-up goalkeeper although he was not in the squad, helping out at training as an additional ‘keeper.
The 25-year-old was previously ar Hearts of Oak.
Coach Gavin Hunt said their inclusion would come as a major boost to the club, who have won only one of their opening six matches of the season and sit eighth in the standings after Friday’s 1-1 home draw with Sekhukhune United.
Stellenbosch have already signed a bevy of new players after a massive cleanout of players at the end of the last season.
Ashley du Preez, returning to the Winelands club from Kaizer Chiefs, is expected back from injury for the trip to Mbombela next weekend, but Tlakusani Mthethwa, signed from Richards Bay, will undergo surgery this week after suffering what Hunt said was a knee injury.
