It’s Rugby World Cup Sevens time in Cape Town and the tournament has certainly been turning up the heat.

Three days of jam-packed action sees 40 teams from across the globe descend on the Mother City and this is the best place to get all the news from the biggest Sevens tournament on the globe.

Day one started with our own Cato Louw, setting the scene on the tournament and getting us into the vibe of three days of fun, sun and a massive rugby party.

First up it was the African teams who were in action, trying to qualify for the main draw, while there was some good news for Kenya, it was Zimbabwe and Uganda who went down fighting in their respective games against Canada and Samoa.

Cato then headed into the stands to talk with the fans, who will continue to stream in as the tournament takes shape. And boy, did she find some passionate supporters out there early on in the day.

Of course it wasn’t all smiles, as Philip Snyman found when he watched his side Germany surrender a 12-0 lead to Chile, and lose with a last minute penalty. He certainly wasn’t pleased at how his side missed out on an opportunity to face the Blitzboks in the last 16.

But slowly the stadium is filling up with some passionate fans and the party is just getting started

As the day went on, the rugby intensified, with defending champions New Zealand marching on in the tournament by downing Scotland with ease.

Captain Sam Dickson was understandably happy with the win.

While the crowds are expected to be bigger on day two, there was enough festive atmosphere on day one, as our camera crew captured, to know this is a tournament that will live on in memory.

And we wait for an impressive day two as teams take another step towards the trophy
