The tournament officially kicks off this afternoon at the iconic Newlands Cricket Ground, where defending champions MI Cape Town face off against Durban’s Super Giants in a blockbuster festive opener.
Afghanistan’s legendary allrounder, Rashid Khan, will lead the defending champions onto the field as they look to become back-to-back winners.
However, with every team in the league strengthening significantly during the off-season, the competition for the crown has never been more intense, with all six teams poised to challenge.
Proteas star Aiden Markram takes the helm at Durban’s Super Giants, while Faf du Plessis captains Joburg Super Kings.
Defending champions MI Cape Town will be led by Khan, while big hitter David Miller captains Paarl Royals, and spin king Keshav Maharaj leads the Pretoria Capitals.
Meanwhile, Tristan Stubbs and his troops will hope to go one further than last season and claim the Sunrisers Eastern Cape’s third SA20 trophy in four seasons.

A Platform for Excellence
League Commissioner Graeme Smith believes the leagues success is built on the fusion of world-class international talent and the rapid development of homegrown players.
“I’m very excited. I think from our perspective, it has been three great seasons building up to where we are now,” said Smith.
“We’re starting to see an influx of talent performing well. It's an incredible opportunity for those youngsters to be exposed to the quality of the game, to learn and to use the League as a platform.”
“It’s not just the 15 players that play for South Africa in the year, but another 60-odd players that have developed.”
