Having enjoyed a highly successful run on M-Net, the acclaimed “Chasing the Sun” rugby series will be available to DStv’s Compact Plus viewers from Friday (SuperSport Variety 1, DStv ch 206, 8pm).

The four other episodes will be broadcast on subsequent Fridays. Following this, all five episodes will be broadcast back-to-back on December 16, also on SS Variety 1, from 3-8pm.

The five-part documentary series chronicles the remarkable story of the Springboks, who were in a trough of despair two years out from the 2019 Rugby World Cup, only to come roaring back to record a famous triumph in Japan.

The story behind it, and many of the players’ personal struggles, are laid bare in this astonishing film, which goes to the heart of SA rugby in an unprecedented manner.

SuperSport was granted unique access to the Springboks both in the build-up and during the tournament which helped produce incredible behind-the-scenes footage that delves into exactly what it took to claim the Webb Ellis Cup last November.

It is a story about changing fortunes and changing mindsets, about pressure and hope, about recognising the power of inspiration, and learning what representation truly means.

“Chasing the Sun” is infused with humour, technical insights and emotional moments that reveal the Springboks like never before.
