In the world of rugby, there is a championship that stands out as the pinnacle of club excellence - the Investec Champions Cup. Often referred to as the "test match rugby of club competition," where two teams rival each other to the top for the honours of being crowned as the best among the best. This tournament brings together the best clubs from a predominantly European league for a display of skill, grit and panache mixed with a sprinkle of magic.

The 2023/24 edition promises extraordinary match-ups and features some of the biggest names of the rugby world.

At the heart of the Investec Champions Cup are three core principles: high performance, teamwork, and innovation. The select clubs participating in this top-tier competition showcase their commitment to pushing the boundaries of the sport. The tournament serves as a platform for teams to demonstrate their prowess on the field while adhering to the values that make rugby a truly exceptional sport.

This is why the Vodacom Bulls, who are on their second stint at the bite of this prized club competition cherry, have found this to be among their golden goals in their quest to be one of the best rugby clubs in the world. In their debut season, the herd out of Loftus went as far as the round of 16 and this time around they are looking for more with key learnings taken from their first attempt.

“We are in a better place as a team, with great lessons from our first season and hopefully we will be able to tap into those key findings to aide us in our journey this time around,” comments Director of Rugby, Jake White.

“Our campaign starts against a very strong Saracens side who have brought with them their best available resources and we take that as a great testament to how they view us as competition. They will give us a wonderful test in terms of where we are as a group, especially in that we are only in our second year in this competition. It will be an interesting measurement for us to see how much progress we have made since we started,”

“This competition is tough because you come up against club players who feature for their international teams and that means the skill level is increased, hence we call the Investec Champions Cup the test rugby of club competition. Players have less time to execute their skills because the player next to them and coming against them is that good.”

The Vodacom Bulls will also face up against French side Lyon in round 2 before travelling to England to take on the Bristol Bears in round 3 and complete the pool stages by welcoming to the capital, Union Bordeaux-Begles.

“Next week we are sending a strong side to France (to play Lyon) because we want to push ourselves and see how far we can go and compete for this coveted trophy.”
