FULL TIME: CARDIFF 31-24 STORMERS
The Stormers dominated swathes of the game but were their own worst. Gelant's bizarre handling errors at key moments really didn't help. Cardiff used the conditions and momentum well to get the win in the end.
CONVERSION, CARDIFF, DE BEER, 31-24:
De Beer converts.
TRY, CARDIFF, LITTERICK, 29-24:
Litterick dives over to score at the last and secure the win.
Blommetjies knocks on tracking back to pick up a kick and Cardiff have an attacking scrum and a chance to win it.
The shot at goal is missed and the Stormers have a penalty with a chance to move play away from their 22.
YELLOW CARD, STORMERS, EVANS:
Evans gets binned for a clearout on the head.
Gelant inexplicably drops the ball with the Stormers on attack. He is carrying the ball in one hand there and that is just maddening.
The Stormers get the penalty but they go to the corner and miss touch which allows Cardiff to kick clear.
Both teams knock on in midfield but the Stormers have the scrum feed and the dominant pack.
It has become dreadfully loose now and the Stormers knock on just as they move into the Cardiff half.
The Stormers give away the penalty on attack and that allows Cardiff to switch play into the Stormers half as we move into the last ten minutes.
Cardiff have the scrum feed on their own 22 with the Stormers unable to make possession pay in their last attack.
PENALTY, CARDIFF, DE BEER, 24-24:
De Beer ties the scores up.
De Beer will have a tough kick to tie things up after a curious penalty.
Blommetjies dots dead and Cardiff have the Stormers hemmed into their own 22.
Cardiff have the momentum now as Gelant tries the offload but throws it forward.
CONVERSION, CARDIFF, DE BEER, 21-24:
De Beer converts.
TRY, CARDIFF, GRADY, 19-24:
Grady sneaks over from a trick play at the lineout from Cardiff.
CONVERSION, STORMERS, FEINBERG-MNGOMEZULU, 14-24:
Another smooth conversion from Feinberg-Mngomezulu gives the Stormers a ten point lead.
TRY, STORMERS, NEL, 14-22:
Nel is slipped in at last after a great pass from Gelant.
A scrum penalty allows the Stormers to setup a lineout inside the Cardiff 22. The Stormers get another penalty at the lineout and go to the corner again.
Cardiff knock on under pressure in the scrum and the Stormers have the ball and a chance to clear their lines. Cardiff try to run it back but throw a forward pass.
Nel is forced to carry back and dot dead after a great attacking play from Cardiff. Cardiff have the scrum five.
The Stormers are ruled to have knocked on as Xaba offloads and Cardiff have the scrum feed just inside their own half.
The second half is underway and it starts with a kicking battle. De Beer juggles and then kicks to touch on halfway. The Stormers go quickly from the lineout and then hoist.
HALF TIME: CARDIFF 14-17 STORMERS
Cardiff hang on to avoid conceding again before the break and are well in the fight. The Stormers might feel they have let the hosts off the hook. Still they have a lead at halftime and look likely in attack.
The kick at goal is short but the Stormers can attack off the attempted clearance. Cardiff holf on though and get the ball back.
Cardiff get onto the attack again after the Stormers knock on but the Stormers pack wins a scrum penalty which allows them to call for a long shot at goal.
CONVERSION, CARDIFF, DE BEER, 14-17:
De Beer adds the afters.
TRY, CARDIFF, BELCHER, 12-17:
Grady is away on the outside again and the Stormers infringe but it won't matter as Belcher drives over.
Cardiff try to get onto the attack again but knock on in contact. The Stormers kick long but Cardiff return it with interest.
Ungerer kicks straight into touch after taking it back into his 22 and Cardiff have a great attacking platform. However they throw a pass into touch and the Stormers get another crack at clearing their lines.
PENALTY, STORMERS, FEINBERG-MNGOMEZULU, 7-17:
The Stormers accept a cheap penalty off the restart.
CONVERSION, CARDIFF, DE BEER, 7-14:
De Beer closes the gap with a great conversion.
TRY, CARDIFF, HAMER-WEBB, 5-14:
De Beer finds space and kicks well into space for Hamer-Webb to score.
Blommetjies takes the mark and calmly slots his kick into touch on the halfway line where Cardiff will have the lineout feed.
Cardiff kick a penalty dead and that could be costly for them as they had a chance to put the Stormers under pressure.
Xaba gets a key turnover chance but it isn't released and he wins a penalty for the Stormers to clear their lines.
De Beer makes the most of a penalty kick and Cardiff can attack at last.
Millard has to go off for a knock to the head and Du Plessis' tackle is cleared. The Stormers feed a lineout just outside their own 22.
CONVERSION, STORMERS, FEINBERG-MNGOMEZULU, 0-14
Another conversion from a tough angle gives the Stormers a 14-point lead.
TRY, STORMERS, NEL, 0-12:
The drive is good but stopped and Ungerer throws a wild pass which bounces in front of Nel but he does well to score the try.
Cardiff stray offside and the Stormers go to the corner again for another lineout.
Theunissen breaks the line but Mann comes up with a crucial steal on the line for Cardiff. The Stormers have another lineout on the Cardiff 22 though.
Cardiff kick the restart straight into touch and the Stormers have the centre spot scrum. The Stormers attack well and Feinberg-Mngomezulu kicks a grubber deep into the Cardiff 22.
CONVERSION, STORMERS, FEINBERG-MNGOMEZULU, 0-7:
Feinberg-Mngomezulu converts from out wide.
TRY, STORMERS, VENTER, 0-5:
The maul gets stopped but Venter goes flying in at th corner with the aid of Xaba.
A scrum time penalty allows the Stormers to go to the lineout.
De Beer makes a great tackle to stop Theunissen who burst through the Cardiff line close to halfway but was brought down close to the Cardiff 22. Cardiff knock on in the attempt to jackal and the Stormers have an attacking scrum.
KICK OFF: The Stormers receive a short kick off but gather well and send a kick towards the Cardiff 22.
