FULL TIME LIONS 55-21 Edinburgh. No joy for Edinburgh who cannot find a way to secure the bonus point. It all comes to an end as Nohamba runs the ball out. A big win for the South African side, powered by a seven try first half in which they were simply irresistible.
Edinburgh may have been second best in most departments today, but their scrum has been dominant. They win a penalty at the scrum and kick for a lineout as they go in search for a four try bonus point.
Signs of tiredness are on show everywhere now. It is a hot day in Johannesburg and this game has been flat out. Errors creeping in everywhere - this time a long pass to the outside is spilled by the Lions.
CONVERSION, LIONS, NOHAMBA. Lions 55-21 Edinburgh. Over goes the kick... easy.
TRY, LIONS, MAXWANE. Lions 53-21 Edinburgh. From their attacking lineout the Lions keep the big men running around the corner. They are under their posts when the ball comes out and it is moved qiuickly. One long pass from Van den Berg. Another long one from Quan Horn and Maxwane is over in the corner for his hattrick.
It's the first period of sustained possession for the Lions all half and they eventually force the penalty. Nohamba kicks for the lineout and the Lions are back on attack.
CONVERSION, EDINBURGH, HEALY. Lions 48-21 Edinburgh. Easy kick for the additional two points.
TRY, EDINBURGH, MUNCASTER. Lions 48-19. It's another attacking lineout for Edinburgh who once again go through the phases. Eventually they find a way through as their forwards grind it over.
YELLOW CARD! Edinburgh set up an attacking lineout after Cairns is blown for kicking the ball through a ruck. There are some nice offloads from the men in blue, but the Lions defence is once again resolute - until they concede a penalty and POHLMANN is yellow carded.
Things have slowed down considerably now. Edinburgh win a penalty deep in their own territory as they start to dominate the scrum. They kick it out for the line out near the halfway line.
Lions maul from a lineout but Edinburgh are able to defend it. The ball is held up and the visitors will have the chance to clear their lines from the resulting scrum.
CONVERSION, EDINBURGH, HEALY. Lions 48-14. It's from out wide, but over it goes as the Scottish side's fortunes continue to improve.
TRY, EDINBURGH, HARRISON. Lions 48-12 Edinburgh.Lions are under pressure on their line and they give away another penalty. Referee stops play so Horne can chat to his players. When play restarts Pierre Schoeman takes the tap and charges at the line. The ball is recycled quickly to substitute hooker Patrick Harrison who goes over.
The Lions concede a penalty in front of the poles but there's no point in taking the three so Edinburgh set up another line-out.
CONVERSION, EDINBURGH, HEALY. Lions 48-7 Edinburgh. Ben Healy adds two more for Edinburgh.
TRY, EDINBURGH, GILCHRIST. Lions 48-5 Edinburgh. Edinburgh win another penalty and set up the lineout as they come straight back at the Lions. They can't get their maul going but they have possession and they go through the phases. Eventually big lock Grant Gilchrist goes over.
It's just not happening for Edinburgh. The referee is playing a penalty advantage for them as they go through the phases. But that disappears as a they are pinged for foul play (which trumps a side entry), and the Lions clear their lines.
We are back underway at Emirates Park. Edinburgh will be hoping things are a little less catastrophic in the second period.
Sensational 40 minutes of rugby by the Lions. There's certainly no coming back from here for Edinburgh, but they will be hoping for some sort of improved showing in the second half. From a Lions perspective this has been magic.
CONVERSION, LIONS, NOHAMBA. Lions 48-0 Edinburgh. Nohamba nails the extra two to bring the half to an end.
TRY, LIONS, VAN DER MERWE. Lions 46-0 Edinburgh. It is the same script again. An Edinburgh turnover deep in Lions territory. The Lions spread it wide instantly with Nohamba the man this time creating the space. The ball moves through a few more pairs of hands before it finds the Springbok winger on the outside. When he doesn't have enough space to work with he chips ahead, gathers and dives over in acrobatic fashion. WOW!
Sanele Nohamba is on at ten for Wolhuter who injured himself in the build up to the earlier try. he misses the conversion.
TRY, LIONS, HORNE. Lions 41-0 Edinburgh. Quan Horn is the architect of this try even though it's Francke Horn who scores it. Again it comes from a turnover deep in Lions territory. Horn kicks long and when Edinburgh gather just shy of their try line they kick for the safety of touch. They miss and Quan is there to run back at them. He can't go all the way but the support is plentiful and the skipper barges over.
CONVERSION, LIONS, VAN DEN BERG. Lions 36-0 Edinburgh. Springbok number 9 Morne van den Berg steps up to slot the extra two.
TRY, LIONS, MAXWANE. Lions 34-0 Edinburgh. Too easy for the Lions. Wolhuter breaks the line and is away with just one man to beat. he has a player on his inside and a player on his outside. He opts for the wheels of Maxwane on his outside and he pins his ears back to go over in the corner.
Once again it is left and right and left again for Edinburgh with no discernable ground made. Once again it ends with a misplaced and ill-advised kick that is easily marked.
CONVERSION, LIONS, WOLHUTER. Lions 29-0 Edinburgh. Easy as can be for the Lions number ten.
TRY, LIONS, JONKER. Lions 27-0 Edinburgh. Almost too easy. Rynardt Jonker attacks the line at a great angle. His run is powerful and and perfectly timed and he charges through a yawning gap to crash over under the poles.
Edinburgh are looking a little bereft of ideas. After a series of phases that seem to be going nowhere they put up the high kick, but it is too far and Horn calls the mark with the greatest ease.
CONVERSION, LIONS, WOLHUTER. Lions 22-0 Edinburgh. Wolhuter doesn't strike it cleanly but it creeps over nevertheless.
TRY, LIONS, VAN DER MERWE. Lions 20-0 Edinburgh. Sensational breakout from the Lions as they latch onto a dropped ball deep in their own 22. They spread it quickly and nuggety number 9 Van den Berg grubbers ahead for Edwill van der Merwe to chase. It's inch perfect and over he goes!
The Lions defence is really superb as Edinburgh simply cannot find a way through. And when the Lions do concede a penalty for Edinburgh to set up the lineout and maul, they manage to hold the ball up over the line for a drop out.
CONVERSION, LIONS, WOLHUTER, Lions 15-0 Edinburgh. Wolhuter adds the extra points with ease.
TRY, LIONS, MAXWANE Lions 13-0 Edinburgh. Pace and speed on the outside as Rabz Maxwane goes over with a beautiful inside-outside step. The try comes after several phases for the Lions and while the referee is playing penalty advantage.
It's taken some time but at last Edinburgh get a sustained period of possession. Sadly for the Scots they cannot find their way through the Lions defence. The home side eventually win a turnover and then a penalty, which they use to set up a lineup.
Wolhuter misses the conversion.
TRY, LIONS, HORN, Lions 8-0 Edinburgh.Quan Horn is over in the corner after some classy rugby from the Lions. From the earlier penalty the Lions win the lineout, they spread it wide and there's a line-break from Franco Horne. While he hasn't got the pace to go all the way, Quan Horn does.
Quan Horn does well to collect a high kick and then steps a few players before he is tackled. As Morne van den Berg looks to clear from the ruck he is impeded an Edinburgh player and the Lions are gifted a penalty.
First penalty of the game goes to the Lions as Edinburgh are blow for hands beyond the ball. Kade Wolhuter is immediately summoned to lick at poles - no thought of a lineout. And the former Stormer makes no mistake and nails the three.
Quan Horn gets the game started and we are underway in Johannesburg.
And a late change with the Lions squad as well as hooker Pieter Botha withdraws due to a late injury concern. His place in the starting line-up goes to Franco Marais.
