Scarlets drive back to the Lions 10m where they are blown up and it looks like the Scarlets will kick for poles from a couple of metres to the right of the poles. HALF-TIME, SCARLETS 10-7 LIONS. Great start from the Scarlets, but the Lions have fought back well and things are looking very open at the moment. There's the promise of plenty of tries to come in the second half as both sides look full of running, and we'll have all the second-half action for you shortly.

Davies clears from the base of the maul, but his kick is direct so we'll go back for a Lions throw 5m inside the home side's 10m.

… but the referee blows again for a scrum penalty… Nohamba drives into the 22 but misses his touch, and the teams swap kicks, with Nohamba ending the phase with a low poke forward that lands a couple of inches inside play before skidding out for a Scarlets throw.

The ref tires of waiting for the Scarlets to get their scrum together and awards a free-kick to the Lions… Nohamba finds a good touch near the halfway line, the Scarlets take the quick throw and drive down the left win, but there's another knock-on so the Lions will. feed the scrum on their 10m…

… Scarlets run it again to the left, Lloyd breaks through a gap brilliantly with the Lions desperately try to hold them at bay as they press into the corner, the ball goes over the tryline but it's knocked-on so the Lions will escape with a scrum on their 5m…

… Scarlets win the lineout and drive down the left, maul, run left again… now they spread it right and hit the Lions 22…

TRY, LIONS, LOUW! 10-5; Easy as you like the Lions win the line, run the ball and drive to around 7m short of the Scarlets line… the ball is placed on the ground in the ruck and there's no sign of any Scarlets defence as Louw bursts through, snatches the ball off the turf and charges through to dot down under the posts. Superb play from the Lions, and they made it look so easy. Game on!

However, the Lions don't travel well, having not won on the road in the URC since they beat Benetton 28–32 back in March this year. Win their three losses all being so close, the Lions will surely be hoping for a change in fortunes to get their URC season under way.

A positive for the Scarlets ahead of this clash is that they have won their last five URC matches at Parc y Scarlets… but a positive for the Lions is that the Scarlets have lost their last two matches against South African teams, albeit both were away from home.

Next up was a gut-wrenching 17-16 loss away to Edinburgh. This was followed by another away loss, this time to Benetton, who clinched the match 15-10 in front of a crowd of just 5 000 people. The Lions drew level at 10-10 in the 63rd minute when Nohamba converted Ntlabakanye's try… only for Mendy to clinch the win with a 70th minute try.

The Lions started their season with a frustrating 33-35 home loss to the Stormers, the Lions scoring five tries, with four converted. They did pick up two bonus points, despite the loss.

Back home in Wales, the Scarlets pulled off a satisfying 31-25 home win over Cardiff, running in four converted tries.

Scarlets started their season with a 63-21 mauling at the hands of the Bulls at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria. This was followed by a bruising 52-7 loss to the Stormers at the Danie Craven Stadium in Stellenbosch.

The Lions are one place below the Scarlets, in 14th place on the URC table, and also with a game in hand over many of the teams above them. The Lions have played three and lost three, although their defence is a lot tighter as their losses have all been super-close, with a points difference of just -8. The Lions have scored seven tries and conceded eight, and the close nature of their losses has ensure that they while they have no win points, they have one try bonus point and THREE losing bonus points, leaving them on four points.

The Scarlets are down in 13th place on the URC table, although they have a game in hand over many of the teams above them. The Scarlets have played three and won one, losing two of their games. Their points difference is -81, with eight tries scored to 20 conceded. They have one try bonus point and are sitting on a total of five points.
