The Dragons snapped their 10-game losing streak with a bonus-point 31-14 (HT 21-7) United Rugby Championship victory over Scarlets at the Principality Stadium on Saturday.
It was a quick start from the Dragons as they scored three tries through Elliot Dee, Jordan Williams and Sio Tomkinson during a 10-minute blitz after Scarlets lock Vaea Fifita was yellow-carded in the third minute.
Scarlets, on the other hand, could only manage a try per half in a rather lacklustre performance.
The Judgment Day fixture saw the Dragons emerge the dominant side as they made proper use of one of their most powerful weapons - the driving maul - and overall proved more clinical to assist them over the try line.
With a Champions Cup semifinal to play next week and nothing left on the line in the United Rugby Championship, it perhaps could have been expected that the Scarlets wouldn't run riot, but that slow start took their lethargy to another level.
Scarlets were 21-0 down by the time they returned to 15 men, and while they bagged one before going into the shed, they were completely blocked by the Dragons' defence, while their failure to look after the ball didn't help them much either.
While the Scarlets enjoyed the upper hand in the second quarter, that bit of momentum didn't follow them into the second stanza at all.
Five minutes after the restart, Scarlets rang the changes, but it wasn't enough to put a stop to the Dragons, who extended their lead with a 45-metre penalty (24-7).
Scarlets eventually reminded the crowd of their presence again when they crashed over with 10 minutes remaining, but the Dragons had the final say when Hughes raced over in the final minute for the bonus-point try.
