While they will start the game as underdogs, despite being a log position above Irish powerhouse Leinster, the Fidelity Securedrive Lions have made it clear - they are heading to Dublin to win.
The Lions dream run this season will take its next step on Saturday at the Aviva Stadium where they enter the arena in third spot, one point away from ensuring their first ever top eight finish in the Vodacom United Rugby Championship and also a keen contender for a top four finish.
But while they have been sensational at home, touring Ireland is another thing altogether and the Lions know that they will only be spoken about as contenders for the URC throne if they can get a win in Dublin - or at least come very close to it.
For that reason, the confidence in the side is being directed to ensuring they give themselves the best chance of success this weekend.
That was pointed out by defence coach Jaque Fourie, who said the team aren’t focused on where they will finish, but for now they have one goal - and that is to win in Dublin.
“We all know it's tough touring to Ireland and playing one of the probably oldest clubs in the world, Leinster. But, I mean, I think we came here with a vision and that is - it's make or break for us, always for us.
“So we came here to win. We're not here to just play around. We're not here just to compete,” Fourie said.
“We want to win Saturday's game and then we'll take it from there. I think, at the moment, our season has been taken game for game and it's all in our own hands. Whatever's going to happen Saturday, it's not in someone else's hands.
“We can't expect the other teams to do us a favour. I think, at the end of the day, it comes down to what we're going to do Saturday and it comes down to us.”
That sort of determination was what got them over the line against a tough Connacht side, who kept them to just 38 per cent possession in their last game. The defensive effort was superb in that game, and Fourie was proud of it. A repeat is necessary if they are going to get the W this weekend.
“I think defence, personally for me, the guys have been doing well and I’ve been very proud of the guys. I think we've grown leaps and bounds over the last four games. I think after the Bulls game, we came back that Monday and we decided we had to change a few things and since then it's just gone better and better.
“So I think we're hitting the right strings at the right time. I think the guys also, you can see that it means something for the team and for the players.
“Let's be honest, you can have all the systems, all the stuff in the world but if there isn’t the commitment, you won’t get anywhere. You can really see that it means something for these guys when they go onto the field and how they work for each other. So I'm tremendously proud of them.”
Fourie added that their last visit to Dublin saw them lose 24-6 but the scoreline flattered Leinster in the end, with a late penalty try blowing it out of proportion. Fourie believes that this time around, the confidence the team have picked up and the momentum from their last four games at home will do them well for the challenge.
“Last year's game was entirely different circumstances. I think we were in the game at the end. They got a penalty try and the scorecard didn't reflect how we played on the day. For us now, I think we've had four or five unbelievable matches at home and built a lot of confidence.
“But that's stuff that you need when you come to Leinster to play them here at the Aviva Stadium. So not only that, I think we've also found our identity. So we know how we want to play on Saturday.
"We know what we need to do Saturday to win and to beat Leinster. Now it's just to put a fine tune on training and then rock up on Saturday and put in a good performance.”
The Lions will name their side for the clash on Friday.
