BokSmart 9, the latest version of South African Rugby’s safety programme and serious head, neck, and spine, injury prevention education initiative, was officially launched by SA Rugby on Monday.
The new course is now freely available on MyBokSmart and represents the next evolution of the programme in supporting coaches, referees, medical support staff, players, and administrators with practical, evidence-informed player safety education and guidance.
BokSmart 9 has been developed to provide an improved end-user learning experience, and updated, aligned educational content relevant to identified safety risks, particularly within the amateur game.
SA Rugby and the Chris Burger Petro Jackson Players Fund encourage every participant to engage fully with the course, links, and materials, take the time to understand the content, and apply the learnings confidently within their local rugby environments.
The new course covers various topics such as rugby safety regulations, serious injuries, concussions, neck strengthening, contact phases such as the scrum and tackle, looking through the referee’s lens, and women’s rugby.
VALUABLE SAFETY TOOLS
Dr Wayne Viljoen, Senior Manager: Rugby Safety at SA Rugby, said: “BokSmart 9 reflects our continued commitment to making rugby safer through education. Informed decisions made on the practice- or match field can make a meaningful difference to player welfare and injury risk, and BokSmart 9 has been designed to support that responsibility at every level of the game.”
MyBokSmart is supported by SportsCap, BokSmart’s Official Software Partner, which has worked closely with the BokSmart team on the continued development and delivery of the MyBokSmart digital learning platform.
“We are proud to support BokSmart 9 as BokSmart’s Official Software Partner,” said Dale Toy, Managing Director, SportsCap.
“Our focus is on providing a reliable, accessible, and user-friendly digital learning environment that helps make rugby education available to participants wherever they are. Through technology, we aim to support BokSmart’s important work in strengthening player safety education across the South African rugby community.”
SA Rugby remains committed to strengthening rugby safety through continued education, creating awareness, and empowering the practical decision-making capabilities of its stakeholders.
