Deon Fourie’s return to the Springbok setup is no surprise.
This past Friday he was front and centre of the Stormers challenge to the All Blacks and to be honest, he was simply incredible.
Almost 40 years old and playing like a youngster with no fear, he launched himself into tackles, jackled over rucks and was a constant thorn in the side of the All Blacks and even though the Stormers didn’t win, Fourie was exceptional and certainly was an easy choice for player of the match.
He turned back the clock so easily it isn’t a surprise that Rassie Erasmus has called him back into the squad for the Greatest Rivalry series.
“That is an incredible performance, isn’t it? For a guy again coming back from a serious injury … He made three tackles in 15 seconds, and two of them were try-saving. He’s remarkable,” Dobson said.
While it isn’t expected Fourie will play in the first test, his presence, and his knowledge now of the All Blacks is invaluable.
For the man they call “Brannas” he produced a performance that it would be easy to raise a glass too. Kudos.
