The Springbok Women’s Sevens ‘A’ side that will contest the 2026 Rugby Africa’s Women’s Sevens Cup in Kenya this weekend will leave no stone unturned to deliver the best results possible, not only for themselves, but also for the country.
That is the view of team captain, Vianca Boer, who is confident that the talents and energy of her team will come to the fore when they take on Rwanda, Zimbabwe and Zambia in Pool A at the RFUEA Grounds in Nairobi on Saturday
Six of the group will be playing international sevens rugby for the first time, but Boer said they are ready.
“We are well aware of the challenges that will come our way tomorrow,” said Boer.
“We came here with a young group of players who will be playing sevens at this level for the first time. We are expecting teams coming at us with their physicality, especially Zimbabwe, when they face us, but we will have answers.”
Boer said it is an easy squad to lead: “They have lots of energy and are keen to learn the finer details of sevens rugby at this level. There are no egos in the team, no one thinks they are excluded from doing the hard yards for the team.
“There is a strong bond that we want to represent our country and make everyone proud.”
On her own return to the game after spending a long time on the sidelines after picking up an injury that required surgery and months of rehabilitation, Boer said she is very keen and ready to go.
“It is always the best feeling when you are cleared and can play again and from a personal point of view, it is just great to be back and playing the game I love so much. To lead this group of girls into a tournament like this is an added bonus,” she said.
