With fan parks, road tours and spectacular laser projections, the ‘Home of the Boks’, DStv, offers premium viewing experience indoors and out, on SuperSport.
With the Rugby World Cup group stage in full swing, rugby fever is at an all-time high country wide.
The pulsating 10th installment of rugby’s premier international tournament has been nothing short of spectacular.
South Africans have experienced the highs and lows of a tournament but have consistently enjoyed premium viewing pleasure, all thanks to SuperSport and DStv.
Over and above coverage of all pool games (and knockout games to come), stellar activations have been taking place country wide to optimise the viewing experience and provide a platform where fans can support the Boks #StrongerTogether.
BRING PEOPLE TOGETHER
“The reason why people take such pride when the Springboks play, is because they genuinely bring people together,” according to SuperSport Head of Rugby, Xhanti-Lomzi Nesi.
It was for this reason why it was imperative that SuperSport created spaces where fans can commune to watch the rugby and support Siya Kolisi and the boys.
From the Phaka Road Show, where match viewings and the first ever all-Xhosa build-ups took place in the townships of Zwide, Mlungisi and Vincent Park, to the tournament-long MTN Fans Malls, powered by SARU and supported by the ‘Home of Rugby’, the viewing pleasure has been carefully curated not only for the screen but also brought to the doorsteps of every South African.
“The one thing we want to do during this World Cup is take South Africans with us,” Nesi proudly affirmed. “Take ordinary South Africans on this journey and include them in how this World Cup is put together.”
A glittering illustration of the commitment to illuminating the experience for rugby fans was the Rugby World Cup Laser Projection Show at The Leonardo in Sandton, on opening night.
“It’s being able to create these unique moments that change the narrative and bring people together, and that’s, for me, what innovation is about.”
LASER SHOW AT MALL OF AFRICA
The second laser projection show is set to take place at Mall of Africa on Sunday, 1 October before South Africa’s crunch clash against Tonga.
Simultaneously, the Fan Mallz will be showcasing the game on big screens in East Gate, Sandton and Menlyn Maine.
For fans who prefer traditional rugby watch-a-longs, local Johannesburg pubs such as Benchwarmers have been enhanced by the presence of SuperSport content creators such as Nqobile Khwezi.
At every juncture, the ‘Home of Sport’ has pulled out all the stops to make this Rugby World Cup one for the books, no matter where you are.
