Springbok prop Lizo Gqoboka will lead a very different Vodacom Bulls team into battle when they take on the Sigma Lions in their Carling Currie Cup game on Wednesday night.
After playing a number of first choice Vodacom United Rugby Championship players in their match against the Cell C Sharks last weekend, the Bulls have made massive changes to their side for the Lions, who are sitting at the bottom of the Currie Cup log.
Just three players survive from the win over the Sharks, with Gqoboka, who has been handed the captaincy being joined by Schalk Erasmus and WJ Steenkamp as the only survivors.
The rest of the side is made up with fringe squad members, including Stravino Jacobs, David Kriel and Stedman Gans, all who haven’t been in action for some weeks.
Juan Mostert also returns to the flyhalf berth, with veteran Morne Steyn on the bench alongside James Verity-Amm and Keagan Johannes.
Mornay Smith makes his long-awaited return from injury on the bench as well.
Vodacom Bulls: David Kriel, Sibongile Novuka, Stedman Gans, Marco Jansen van Vuren, Stravino Jacobs; Juan Mostert, Bernard van der Linde; Muller Uys, Werner Gouws, WJ Steenkamp, Reinhardt Ludwig, Raynard Roets, Robert Hunt, Schalk Erasmus, Lizo Gqoboka (captain).
Replacements: Joe van Zyl, Cebo Dlamini, Mornay Smith, Ruan Delport, Jaco Labuschagne, Keagan Johannes, Morne Steyn, James Verity-Amm.
