Lions release Jantjies to join Pau

The Emirates Lions have released their captain Elton Jantjies on a short-term basis to French club Pau to help him prepare for the British and Irish Lions’ series.

Jantjies, whose contract expires in June, could see the move as a possible forerunner to a permanent shift to France, but for now has been released after consultation with SA Rugby.

A short statement by the Lions confirmed the move.

“Upon request from Elton Jantjies and in conjunction with SA Rugby, Lions Rugby Company has released the player for an opportunity as a medical joker with French club Paul in preparation for the B&IL. LRC and SA Rugby are in communication with Elton post the opportunity granted.”

Jantjies has previously expressed a desire to play abroad, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if the move was made permanent.
