DHL Stormers hero Hacjivah Dayimani, who set social media alight the past week with a five-day celebration after his side won the Vodacom United Rugby Championship, has gone a step further and sold the jersey he wore in the final to aid a local school.

SuperSport understands the jersey - which Dayimani played against the Vodacom Bulls in, and in which he showered and wore for the five-day celebration that even included the Cape Town mayor, has been sold to aid a school which helps children with autism.

Former Scotland captain Josh Strauss, who now lives in Cape Town, was raising funds for the Boland School of Autism which Dayimani heard about during his celebrations and the flanker decided to part with his final jersey to help raise funds for the school.

Dayimani’s agent Dane Galley, when contacted about the move, said Dayimani had hoped to keep the gesture quiet and didn’t want the attention to be on him.

The sale of the jersey raised close to R40 000 for the school, with a private benefactor Charl Jacobs of the Phangela Group buying the jersey and matching whatever Dayimani donates to the school.

Strauss’s daughter attends the school, and the former Scottish captain regularly tries to help them raise money to help the school.

Dayimani also was named the captain of the Maccabi Games South Africa squad this weekend, leading a side that includes Sharks flyhalf Jordie Chait.

Dayimani is of Jewish faith and his selection is a massive boost for the team that will head to Tel Aviv to contest the games and represent South Africa.

The team will be coached by former Springbok assistant and current USA coach Gary Gold, with former Stormers coach Robbie Fleck as assistant coach. The team manager is former Western Province flyhalf Anton Chait.

In his celebrations after the Stormers’ win, Dayimani did a five-day tour, vowing to stay in his Stormers kit to celebrate the inaugural URC win and his travels went viral on social media, even prompting the Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis to join him for a beer.

Posting the picture on social media Dayimani even quipped he could solve bigger problems.

He captioned the photo: “Day 4 We keep going!! Send me your number plate numbers I will get rid of you fines while I’m still at it.“
