Tonga lock Fifita joins promoted Oyonnax

Tongan international Leva Fifita has joined promoted French club Oyonnax from Irish province Connacht, the Top 14 side said Monday.

The 34-year-old lock has been brought in as cover for former Scotland U20 international Ewan Johnson, who was recruited in May from Vannes but will be out for up to six months after knee surgery.

Fifita, capped 31 times for Tonga and a part of their 35-man squad for the World Cup warm-up tests, spent the last two seasons at Connacht, scoring two tries in 24 matches.

Oyonnax host Clermont in the first game of the Top 14 season on Saturday.
