The cancellation of the scheduled Justin Bieber concert at the end of the month has prompted the DHL Stormers to move one of their games that was scheduled for Stellenbosch to the DHL Stadium in Cape Town.
The Stormers were scheduled to play Connacht on 24 September and Edinburgh a week later, 1 October, at the Danie Craven Stadium in Stellenbosch due to the clash in venues.
They will still play the Connacht game there, but the Edinburgh match, which is a replay of last season’s Vodacom United Rugby Championship quarterfinal, will be played at their usual home ground in Greenpoint.
According to a Stormers press release issued on Wednesday, the Heritage Day game against Connacht that opens the Stormers’ defence of the URC title they won in the competition’s inaugural year will remain at Danie Craven Stadium because the logistical planning is at too advanced a stage to change it now.
The game against Connacht has been brought forward a few hours to avoid a clash with the final Castle Lager Rugby Championship test match between South Africa and Argentina.
Instead of kicking off in the evening, the game will now kick off at 2:30pm CAT (SA, GMT+2) , with a beer tent and big screen set up on the adjacent field so fans who attend the URC game can stay on to watch the Boks in action.
Tickets for the match against Connacht are available from Webtickets and those who have tickets for the Edinburgh game in Stellenbosch can swop them for DHL Stadium, or be refunded.
Tickets for the game will be on sale at Ticketpro, with details to be released shortly.
