Otto Addo’s highly attacking line-up paid off, as Ghana thrashed Chad 5-0 in their World Cup qualifying encounter at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday evening.

The hosts asserted their dominance from the very beginning and were comfortable on the ball on home soil, as they collected three points to put them at the top of Group I.

Antoine Semenyo opened the scoring for the Black Stars in the second minute of play, as he drove his shot home from the rebound of his initial effort saved by Chad goalkeeper Jourdain Mbaynassem.

The hosts doubled their lead in Accra in the 31st minute, with a quality delivery from Kingsley Schindler seeing Inaki Williams head home.

The Black Stars continued to run rampant as just five minutes later, Semenyo made a surging run forward into the box.

The Bournemouth forward was tripped by Chad’s Issa Lony Hassaballaha and the referee pointed to the spot to award Ghana the penalty.

The spot kick was taken confidently by captain Jordan Ayew and the Black Stars extended their lead to three goals by halftime.

It continued to be one-way traffic in the second half when a corner taken by Ernest Nuamah resulted in Mohammed Salisu also getting his name on the scoresheet in the 56th minute.

Les Sao’s defending turned out to be a problem as the Black Stars grabbed their fourth, as it was an easy header for Salisu, who was left unmarked in the penalty area.

Nuamah would also net a goal of his own in the 68th minute, as the hosts once again found themselves in the 18-yard area and after receiving a back heel pass from Ayew, the winger finished to rub more salt in Chad’s wounds.

After scoring five goals at home, the Black Stars strengthened their campaign to qualify for the World Cup, with their next clash coming against Madagascar next Monday evening.
