All the goals came in the first 32 minutes as Khama Billiat put the AmaKhosi in front, only for Innocent Maela to equalise for Pirates. The winner was scored by Vincent Pule as Pirates continued their recent dominance of their Soweto rivals.
November 24, 2018 – Telkom Knockout Kaizer Chiefs 1-2 Orlando Pirates
Pirates made it three wins in a row with another victory, this time in the semifinals of the Telkom Knockout. Lorch had them in front early, but Castro equalised for Chiefs almost immediately. The winner was scored six minutes from time by Justin Shonga.
February 9, 2019 – League Kaizer Chiefs 1-1 Orlando Pirates
Chiefs finally managed to stop the rot as Daniel Cardoso put them in front with a penalty in the second half, but they could not hold on for the win with Lorch again on target with 10 minutes remaining.
November 2, 2019 – Telkom Knockout Kaizer Chiefs 2-2 Orlando Pirates After extra-time; Chiefs won 4-2 on penalties
Victory, of sorts, for Chiefs in the form of a penalty shoot-out win in the quarterfinals of the Telkom Knockout, but the history books will record the game as a draw. It was a see-saw battle as Fortune Makaringe had Pirates in front, but an equaliser from Castro sent the game to extra-time. Another Cardoso penalty then handed Chiefs the advantage, before Gabadinho Mhango equalised by Pirates. Both their goals were set-up by Chiefs’ nemesis Lorch. Chiefs triumphed in the shoot-out as Ben Motshwari and Abel Mabaso both missed for Pirates.
November 9, 2019 – League Kaizer Chiefs 3-2 Orlando Pirates
The teams met again in the league a week later and it was another goals-fest as Chiefs finally claimed a win. They were given a fast start after Pirates defender Ntsikelelo Nyauza put the ball into his own net inside the opening minute. And they seemed in cruise-control when Castro put them 2-0 midway through the first half. But goals from Pule and Mhango brought Pirates level at 2-2, only for Cardoso to win the game for Chiefs with a penalty on 84 minutes.
February 29, 2020 – League Orlando Pirates 0-1 Kaizer Chiefs
The last Soweto Derby with fans as 80 808 turned up at FNB Stadium to watch the clash. The game was settled on the half-hour thanks to a brilliant strike from Lebo Manyama as Chiefs held on to complete the league ‘Double’ over Pirates in the 2019-20 season.
October 31, 2020 – MTN8 Orlando Pirates 3-0 Kaizer Chiefs
Pirates cruised to victory with goals from Zakhele Lepasa, Pule and Lorch to give them a massive advantage in the MTN8 semifinal, first leg. It was The Buccaneers’ biggest victory over their great rivals since they claimed a 3-0 success in the league in the 2001-02 season.
November 8, 2020 – MTN8 Kaizer Chiefs 0-2 Orlando Pirates
Pirates completed a 5-0 aggregate success in the MTN8 semifinals, though the scoreline does not reflect just how many chances Chiefs created, and wasted, in this game. Makaringe and Linda Mntambo got the goals for Pirates in the second half.
January 30, 2021 – League Orlando Pirates 2-1 Kaizer Chiefs
Another match in which Chiefs had a host of chances they squandered, including a penalty miss by Samir Nurkovic, and came out on the wrong end of the result. Lorch (who else?) and Siphelele Ndlovu put Pirates 2-0 up, before Cardoso pulled a goal back with five minutes remaining. Too little, too late for Chiefs though.
