Ethiopia Nigd win first Ethiopia Premier League title

Ethiopia Nigd Bank, also known as CBE-Commercial Bank of Ethiopia have won the Ethiopia Premier League title for the first time.

The Bankers beat Ethiopian Insurance 2-0 in the final game of the season played simultaneously with rivals, Mechal Sports tie against Dire Dawa City which Mechal won 1-0

Ethiopia Nigd topped the table with 64 points and +30 goals difference with Mechal finishing a point behind with 63 points and +20 goal difference.

It has been a phenomenal ride for CBE who gained promotion just this season, and the quality of their recruitment put them in a strong position.

They managed to outperform big teams like St George, Ethiopia Coffee who finished 3rd, former Champions, Fasil City, Hadassah and have been top of the log for most of the second round.

Ethiopia Coffee finished 3rd, Bahir Dar City was 4th, St George in 5th place, Fasil City in 6th, Adama City in 7th, and Hadiya Hossana completes the top 8.

Hawassa City was 9th, Ethiopian Insurance in at 10th, Sidama Coffee in 11th, Dire Dawa City was 12th, Wolaitta Dicha in 13th and Wolkite City was 14th.

The two relegated teams were Shashemene City and Hambericho Durame who won promotion ironically with the new Champions, Ethiopia Nigd Bank
