Dire Dawa down Wolkite, Insurance trounce Adama
Dire Dawa City beat Wolkite 3-0 in the Ethiopian Premier League on Thursday, while Ethiopian Insurance trounced Adama City 4-1.
A goal from Surafel Getachew and a brace by Carlos Damtew gave Dire Dawa fans at the Hawassa University Stadium plenty to cheer about.
Getachew converted a fourth-minute penalty to give his side a 1-0 lead.
Damtew made it 2-0 ten minutes later and Dire Dawa took that lead into the halftime break.
Damtew completed his brace when he converted a second penalty for a comfortable 3-0 win.
Ethiopian Insurance, meanwhile, earned a sixth straight win with a 4-1 win over Adama City, but it wasn't as straightforward.
The first half ended goalless, but Hayder Sherafa broke the deadlock in the 63rd minute to give Insurance a 1-0 lead.
Allan Kayiwa doubled Insurance's advantage in the 75th minute and Abdisa Jemal made it 3-0 on 78 minutes.
Adama City pulled one back in the 82nd minute through Jemil Yakob.
However, Abubeker Sani restored the three-goals cushion with another goal in the 86th minute to give Insurance a convincing 4-1 victory.
