Mekelakeya and Bahir Dar City have firmly entered the Ethiopia Premier League title race after Mekelakeya beat Adama 2-1 and Bahir Dar dispatched Hawassa by the same scoreline.

The postponement of St George's derby with Ethiopia Coffee means the Defence Force will hold on to their lead for another week.

Bahir Dar mounted a serious title fight last season going all the way to the wire with St George, and now they are on the prowl.

Adama City drew first blood through Biniam Ayiten on 49 minutes to take an early second half lead.

Adama would respond 14 minutes later with a 63rd minute equalizer scored by Samuel Saliso before Shimeles Bekele produced the winner in the 68th minute.

It was the Cherinet Gugsa show for Bahir Dar City with the Ethiopian International netting a brace in their 2-1 win over Hawassa City.

Gugsa scored first in the 12th minute to give Bahir Dar a 1-0 lead, and on 40 minutes, he increased the tally for Bahir Dar City to 2-0.

Hawassa City pulled one back on the strike of halftime through Tafesse Solomon and both sides went into the break 2-1 in favour of Bahir Dar.

There were no goals in the second half, and Bahir Dar moved to 3rd with 14points, same as CBE in second place.

Hawassa City remain in 8th place and Adama City who lost to Mekelakeya are in the 6th position with 12 points, same as 5th placed, Fasil Kenema.
