Alexa Grasso will look to extend her winning streak in the UFC when she faces Viviane Araujo in the women’s flyweight main event of a Fight Night at the APEX Facility in Las Vegas on the morning of Sunday 16 October 2022.
Grasso (14-3) has racked up three straight wins, most recently defeating Joanne Wood via first-round submission in March of this year.
The 29-year-old Mexican is looking to push herself closer to a shot at the flyweight title currently held by Valentina Shevchenko.
“Finally, three wins (in a row) in the UFC and my first finish – my first submission on my record… Of course, as a fighter you always want to finish a fight. It took a long time, as you said, but now I feel great. As I’m getting older, too, I feel more mature – my mind, my body, and my fight game,” said Grasso.
“Let’s do this. I’ll be ready for whatever the UFC brings to me because I work so hard… (A title shot) will be a dream come true. Since I’m not injured right now, I’ll come back to the gym, just to be ready.”
Araujo (11-3) has won three of her last four trips to the Octagon, most recently defeating Andrea Lee via unanimous decision in May.
The 35-year-old Brazilian is confident that she can continue to build momentum: “I’m coming very well-prepared. I’ve learned a lot during this time off. A lot of growth, both mentally and physically.
“I think I’ve evolved in a lot of aspects regarding my technique and physical abilities. My nutritionist has been doing a great job, so the weight cut won’t be a problem for me. We’ll go in there and perform the best way possible.”
The rest of the main card features Cub Swanson v Jonathan Martinez in a bantamweight co-main event; a flyweight fight between Askar Askarov and Brandon Royval; Jordan Wright v Dusko Todorovic in the middleweight category; and a welterweight opener between Neil Magny and Daniel Rodriguez.
