As two highly-ranked contenders in the UFC’s Lightweight division, Mateusz Gamrot and Quillan Salkilld will hope to continue their surge up the Lightweight rankings when they do battle at UFC Fight Night at the Meta Apex on Sunday morning.
Main card set to commence at 2am (CAT, GMT+2).
Gamrot (26-4-0) is currently ranked sixth in the UFC Lightweight division, while Salkilld (12-1-0) comes into the fight sitting in ninth place following an impressive showing this year.
Salkilld, 26, last featured at UFC Fight Night: Della Maddalena v Prates in May, where he secured a TKO victory over Beneil Dariush en-route to claiming the Performance of the Night award. Prior to his fight with Dariush, Salkilld noted five straight victories, three of which were stoppages.
As for Gamrot, the 35-year-old secured an impressive arm-triangle choke win over Estaban Ribovics in his last fight that took place at UFC 327 in April.
While Salkilld is a rising talent in the UFC, Gamrot boasts a wealth of experience with high-profile wins over names such as Rafael dos Anjos, Rafael Fiziev, Arman Tsarukyan, while he also suffered losses to the likes of Charles Oliveira and Dan Hooker.
Speaking ahead of the fight, Gamrot expressed that he intends on reminding the fight world of his abilities once more, while he is well aware of Salkilld’s ‘dangerous’ reputation.
“This is another main event in the UFC, and this is a super-honour for me that I can headline in the big show in the world,” Gamrot said.
“I am ready, I am excited. The next guy in front of me (is) young, dangerous; I respect him, I respect his skills, but I know what I bring to the table. I am ready to rock ‘n roll.
“Another young prospect, but I don’t care who UFC puts against me. I wanna just prove that I am one of the best fighters in the world, and that’s it.”
The main card will also feature two women’s bouts, as Amanda Lemos and Alexia Thainara will meet at Strawweight while Juliana Miller and Ravena Oliveira will compete in the Flyweight division.
