As one of the most unique UFC cards in 2026, the exciting Brandon Moreno will meet the hard hitting Lone'er Kavanagh at UFC Fight Night at the Arena CDMX on Sunday morning, with both fighters targeting winning returns to the year.
The UFC will return to Mexico City for the eighth time in their history later this week, an event that will be spearheaded by the former two-time Flyweight champion.
Moreno became the first Mexican-born champion in UFC after he submitted Deiveson Figueiredo in 2021. Now though, Moreno (23-9-2) will hope to bounce back from his TKO loss against Tatsuro Taira in December 2025, while Kavanagh (9-1-0) likewise suffered a knockout defeat to Charles Johnson in his most recent bout that took place at UFC Fight Night: Walker v Zhang in August 2025.
Prior to Kavanagh loss against Johnson, the Englishman went on a three-fight winning streak in the UFC, which included a knockout victory over An Tuan Ho in his Dana White’s Contender Series 67 debut.
Moreno on the other hand, recorded three defeats in his last five fights, two of which came via split decision results against Alexandre Pantoja and Brandon Royval respectively.
Speaking ahead of the fight, Moreno hopes to provide Mexican fans with something to smile about amid a tense war between Mexican cartel members and police authorities.
"It has been really hard hours for my Mexican people. It's weird, man. It's crazy because, right now, I'm super focused on my fight but, at the same time, I know that a lot of Mexican people are focused on this bad moment,” Moreno said.
“Maybe [the UFC Fight Night event] can be a nice moment for the people to try to forget the bad moment and get some joy."
As for Kavanagh, the 26-year-old is fully focused on causing an upset against Moreno who he believes is a legend of the promotion.
"Brandon's a legend, and he seems like a nice guy as well," Kavanagh expressed.
"For me, it's just when these opportunities come, you take them, and this is what I want. These are the moments I Live for, so I'm excited for it."
The upcoming card will also feature two Bantamweight fights in the form of Santiago Luna v Angel Pacheco, while Marlon Vera v David Martinez, Edgar Chairez v Felipe Bunes and Imanol Rodriguez v Kevin Borjas will feature in the Flyweight vision.
