As the Betway Premiership resumes this week, Royal AM coach John Maduka is expecting a tough return to action when they take on Golden Arrows at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Tuesday night.

Kick-off is at 7:30pm (CAT, GMT+2)

CURRENT FORM

Prior to the international break, Abafana Bes’thende went on a four-match winless streak in which they recorded four consecutive defeats before recording a 0-0 draw with SuperSport United last time out.

Their slump in form saw them move down to 10th position on the table and they have now accumulated just seven points from six matches played so far this season.

Royal AM ended their matchday seven encounter in a 1-0 loss against Polokwane City at the Harry Gwala Stadium on the 30th of October.

Before their result against Rise and Shine, Royal AM secured a 2-0 win against Sekhukhune United on the 26 October.

With just the single win to their name this season, Thwihli Thwahla have raked in just seven points in seven matches during the 2024-25 campaign.

WHAT WAS SAID?

With the recent international break behind us, Royal AM coach John Maduka revealed that his side took part in club friendlies to keep the fitness levels ticking over and they’re well prepared for the game against Arrows.

“The break gave us time to scrutinise the technical side of our game and try out new tactics. These games were not just about staying fit but also about learning what works,” Maduka said.

“We are ready and have prepared very well, but it’s going to be a tough game. It’s a KZN derby, so it will be highly competitive. While playing at home and in front of our supporters gives us some advantage, we know it will be challenging for both teams

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Royal AM: Andile Mpisane – While the Royal AM chairman is yet to make a lasting impression on the squad, Maduka has insisted on giving the 23-year-old a run in midfield. Should he get the nod against Arrows, Mpisane will no doubt be one of the biggest talking points before, during and after the match.

Golden Arrows: Lungelo Nguse – The 25-year-old has been Arrows’ preferred point of reference in attack this season despite scoring just one goal in six Betway Premiership games so far. Nguse’s presence and willingness to drag defenders into uncomfortable positions will be key for his side on Tuesday evening.
