Comrades Stories | Impaled but not pinned down

Danie de Wet ran his first Comrades Marathon at the age of 18, in honour of his late mother but disaster threatened to put an end any future participation.
Danie was impaled by a metal rod in an underground mining accident in 2015 but had no intentions of letting that end his Comrades career. After recovering from his injuries Danie began training again in 2017 and true to the spirit of character that saw him take on the Comrades in the first place, De Wet returned to the Ultimate Human Race in 2018, finishing the race in a time of 11:30:37.
Danie’s story is just one on a long list of incredible tales that inspire others and characterise the spirit of the Comrades Marathon.
