Claressa Shields from Flint, Michigan, USA, retained the IBF, WBA, WBC, WBO, and WBF women’s world middleweight titles on a wide ten-round unanimous points decision over Maricela Cornejo on Saturday night at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan.

The sores were 100-90 twice and 100-89.

The 28-year-old Shields dominated from the opening round, scoring at will with lefts and rights to the rugged Cornejo, 36, who came in as a late replacement and sucked up the punishment.

Shields, who has a record of 14-0; 2, tried for a knockout as she won every minute of every round against Cornejo, who had height and reach advantages but was unable to score against her skilful opponent.

On the same card junior middleweight Ardreal “Bossman” Holmes Jr. (14-0; 5) won on an eight-round technical split decision against Wendy Toussaint (14-2; 6) in a clash for the vacant women’s IBF USBA title.

Toussaint pressed forward and tried to unsettle Holmes but was warned a number of times by the referee before he deducted a point in the fourth round.

A clash of heads in round eight resulted in a huge gash on Toussaint’s forehead and the fight went to the scorecards.

The scores were 77-74 and 76-75 for Holmes and 77-74 for Toussaint as the crowd booed the decision.

In a middleweight bout Joseph Hicks (7-0; 5) won on an eight-round unanimous points decision against Antonio Todd (14-8; 8) for the WBC Americas silver title.

The scores were 80-72 on all three judges’ scorecards.

RODOLFO OROZCO STOPS ELIAN TREJO IN FOUR ROUNDS

Junior middleweight Rodolfo Orozco (32-3-3; 24) from Sinaloa, Mexico, stopped fellow Mexican Elian Trejo (8-3; 5) in the fourth round of an eight-round main event on Friday night at the Salon Villia Flamingos in Mexico City.

Trejo did well in the opening round as he hurt Orozco several times.

However, Orozco came back in the next three rounds before the stoppage.

MARIUZ WACH WINS IN FIVE

Former world heavyweight title challenger 43-year-old Mariusz “Viking” Wach (37-9; 20) won on a fifth-round technical knockout against Jakub Sosinski (8-3-1; 3) on Saturday night in Katy Wroclawskie, Poland.
