Foster retains WBC title

O’Shaquie Foster retained his WBC junior lightweight title on a 12th-round knockout against Eduardo “Rocky” Hernandez on Saturday night at the Poliforum Benito Juarez in Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexico.

Hernandez made a good start from the opening round and was ahead on all three judges’ scorecards, with the 11th round being one of the best this year.

However, Foster came back to drop Hernandez on two occasions in the 12th round before the bout was stopped. The time was 2:38.

At the end of the 11th round, Foster was behind 110-99, 107-102 and 106-103.

Foster improved his record to 21-2; 11 and Hernandez’s record dropped to 31-2; 31.

UNDERCARD

Heavyweight Justis Huni (8-0; 4), who is rated at No 15 by the WBO, won on a hard-earned 10-round points decision against Andrew Tabiti (20-2; 16). The scores were 100-90, 98-92, 98-92.

IBF No 4 and WBO No 10-rated junior lightweight Eduardo Nunez (25-1; 25) won on a second-round knockout over 39-year-old Oscar Escandon (27-7; 18). The time was 0:38.

FURY WINS CLOSE DECISION

WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (34-0-1; 24) had to come back from a knockdown in the second round against MMA fighter Francis Ngannou (0; 1) to win on points over 10 rounds in a non-title fight on Saturday at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Fury suffered a small cut on his forehead in the second round and was knocked down with a left hook in round three.

Fury won on a split decision with scores of 95-94 in Ngannou's favour and 96-93, 95-94 for Fury.

In a battle of two unbeaten British heavyweights, WBA No 11 Fabio Wardley (17-0; 16) stopped WBO No 9 David Adeleye (12-1; 11) in the seventh round. The time was 2:43.

Former WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker (33-3; 23), who is rated at No 6 by the WBO, won on a third-round knockout over Simon Kean (23-2; 22). The time was 2:04.

WBC No 3, WBA No 5, IBF No 10, and WBO No 13 heavyweight, Arslanbek Makhmudov (18-0; 17) won on a first-round knockout against Junior Anthony Wright (20-5-1; 17). The time was 70 seconds.

In another heavyweight bout, Moses Itauma (6-0; 4) stopped Istvan Bernath (10-2; 8) in the first round. Itauma was knocked down but when he got up, he landed a barrage of punches before the referee waved the fight off at 1:53 into the round.

WBA No 2 and WBC No 9 heavyweight Martin Bakole (20-1; 15) won on a fourth-round technical knockout over the 42-year-old Carlos Takam (40-8-1; 28). The time was 2:15.

WBA BANTAMWEIGHT CHAMPION INJURED

WBA bantamweight champion Takuma Inoue has suffered a rib fracture in sparring and his scheduled defence against Filipino former champion Jerwin Ancajas on 15 November has been cancelled.

The whole card including the WBA flyweight title bout between Artem Dalakian and Japan’s Seigo Yuri Akui has also been cancelled.

SANTIAGO WINS AGAINST VIVAS

In a bout for the WBO interim junior flyweight title, WBO No 4 Rene “El Chulo” Santiago (13-3: 10) won a 12th-round knockout over WBO No 15 Kevin Vivas (7-1; 2) at the Alexis Arguello Arena in Managua, Nicaragua. The time was 1:18.

In a welterweight bout, Harvin “Manimal” Aguirre (9-0, 6) won a majority eight-round points decision over Israel Lopez 11-4-1; 8. The scores were 78-74, 76-76, 78-74.

SERRANO WINS AGAINST RAMOS

Undisputed female featherweight champion Amanda Serrano (46-2-1; 30) outpointed former WBO interim champ Danila Ramos (12-3; 1) over 12 rounds on Friday night at the Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando, Florida.

The scores were 120-108 on all three judges’ scorecards.

WBA No 14 welterweight Damian Lescaille (6-0; 4) won in a ninth-round knockout over Ray Barlow (7-4; 4). The time was 2:58.

In a bantamweight bout, 2016 Olympian Antonio Vargas (17-1; 9) outpointed former world champion Hernan “Tyson” Marquez (47-11-2; 33) over 10 rounds. The scores were 99-89 on all three judges score cards.
