Padraig McCrory wins vacant IBO belt
Padraig “The Hammer” McCrory won the vacant IBO light heavyweight belt when he stopped Leon Bunn in the sixth round on Saturday night at the Fabriksporthalle in Frankfurt, Germany.
McCrory scored knockdowns in the second and third rounds, then won the fight after the third knockdown in the sixth round.
Bunn gamely beat the count, but his corner threw in the towel.
The time was 1:56.
McCory improved his record to 15-0; 9 and Bunn’s record dropped to 18-1; 9.
ROBERT SIMS WINS AGAINST KENZIE MORRISON
Heavyweight Robert Simms (12-3-1; 3) stopped Kenzie Morrison (20-1; 2), son of former WBO heavyweight champion Tommy Morrison (20-1-2; 18), in the eighth round on Saturday night at Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kansas.
Sims claimed the USNBC belt.
Junior middleweight Steve Cunningham Jr won in 16 seconds of the first round against Andre Scott.
In a featherweight bout Jose Luis Castillo Jr (25-3; 19) won on a first-round stoppage against James Roach (6-6; 5).
Time was 2:11.
Welterweight Jake Robinson (6-2-1; 3) won on points over six rounds against Alcibiade “Roberto Duran Jr” Duran (9-3; 7).
MAURICIO LARA WINS AGAINST 40-YEAR-OLD
Featherweight Mauricio Lara (25-2-1; 18) won on a third-round knockout over 40-year-old veteran Jose Sanmartin (33-6-1; 21) on Saturday night at the Plaza de Toros in Mexico City. Lara scored two knockdowns in the third round. Time was 1:36.
Sena Agbeko upsets Isaiah Steen
Super middleweight Sena Agbeko (27-2; 21) scored an upset win over Isaiah Steen (16-1; 12) when he took a ten-round unanimous decision on Friday night at Bally’s Atlantic City Casino & Resort.
The scores were 97-93, 96-94 and 98-92.
In a junior middleweight contest “Marvelous” Marquis Taylor (13-1-2; 1) outpointed previously unbeaten Marlon Harrington (8-1; 7).
In a heavyweight bout Moses “Thunder Hands” Johnson (9-0-1; 7) won on a majority eight-round decision over Elvis Garcia (12-1; 9).
Strong>THOMAS OOSTHUIZEN WINS SECOND COMEBACK FIGHT
In a complete mismatch, former IBO super middleweight and light-heavyweight champion 34-year-old Thomas Oosthuizen (30-3-2; 17) won his second comeback fight against the 33-year-old Malawian Limbano Lano (7-9-1; 4) at the Carousel Casino last Sunday.
He has called out current WBC cruiserweight champion Ilunga “Junior” Makabu for a championship match, but on current form this would be a mismatch.
KEVIN LERENA TO CHALLENGE FOR WBA REGULAR HEAVYWEIGHT BELT
South Africa’s Kevin Lerena (28-1; 14) is scheduled to challenge Daniel Dubois (18-1; 17) for the WBA regular heavyweight belt at the Tottenham Hotspur Football Stadium in London on 3 December.
This is a massive challenge for the 30-year-old Lerena, who is rated at No 13 by the WBA and fights from the southpaw stance, against the much bigger 25-year-old Dubois who has won all his fights inside the distance.
