Ertugral brings up 400 not out

Cape Town City coach Muhsin Ertugral will reach the milestone of having taken charge of 400 games in South African football when the club go up against Richards Bay in the Betway Premiership on Friday (kick off 7.30pm).

Ertugral has recently returned to the South African game after a six-year absence and began his new job with surprise wins over the Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates before losing to Marumo Gallants last weekend.

Ertugral has a record of 171 wins, 113 draws and 115 defeats in his 399 matches in charge of Kaizer Chiefs (two spells), Santos, Ajax Cape Town (four spells), Lamontville Golden Arrows, Mpumalanga Black Aces, Orlando Pirates and Maritzburg United.

In his first spell at Chiefs he won the African Cup Winners’ Cup, BP Top Eight Cup and Coca-Cola Cup in 2001 as well as the 2000 BoB Save Super Bowl.

With Ajax he took the 2007 Absa Cup but the next season went to Chiefs, winning the Telkom Knockout in 2007 and 2008 MTN8.

He was born in Istanbul 65 years ago. Ertugral, who played for Union Solingen, Antalyaspor, Eskişehirspor and VfL Sindelfingen in his playing career, graduated from the Cologne Sports Academy and Cologne Technical Academy respectively. He holds a Uefa Pro License coaching certificate.

He also coached the Zaire national team at the 1996 Africa Cup of Nations finals in South Africa before coaching Sivasspor in Turkey, then coming to South Africa. He has also coached at Club Africain in Tunisia, SV Mattersburg in Austria, Ismaili in Egypt, and Bani Yas in the United Arab Emirates.
