Warriors clean up Dolphins, Lions beat Dragons in CSA 4-Day Series

The Dafabet Warriors wrapped up a superb come-from-behind win over the Hollywoodbets Dolphins after lunch, while the DP World Lions were made to work hard to secure their win over the North West Dragons during the day's final session on day four of their Division One CSA 4-Day Series matches.

On Saturday, the Momentum Multiply Titans and Six Gun Grill Western Province both claimed massive innings wins over the ITEC Knights and Gbets Rocks respectively within three days.

LIONS CLINCH COMFORTABLE WIN OVER DRAGONS IN FINAL SESSION

The DP World Lions sealed a comfortable 123-run win over the North West Dragons as they picked up the final three wickets in their second innings in the final session of their Division One CSA 4-Day Series match at the JB Marks Oval in Potchefstroom on Sunday.

A fighting unbeaten 81 off 111 balls (12x4, 2x6) from Delano Potgieter was unable to stave off the inevitable as the Lions made short work of the tail after the tea break.

With the Dragons resuming their second innings on 233 for seven, needing an extremely unlikely 164-runs to win, any chance they may have had of fighting for a win or a draw was snuffed out by Sisanda Magala as he bowled Eldred Hawken (6) and Kerwin Mungroo (7).

Renaldo Meyer (4) was the last man out, trapped lbw by Reeza Hendricks, leaving the impressive Potgieter short of what would have been a deserved landmark score.

Magala with 4-34 was the pick of the bowlers, while Bjorn Fortuin, 2-51, and Lutho Sipamla, 2-54, backed him up well.

In the post-lunch session, the Dragons resumed their second innings on 142 for four, and almost immediately lost Senuran Muthusamy (29), caught by Reeza Hendricks off the bowling of Bjorn Fortuin, as they slipped to 143 for five.

Heino Kuhn (18no) and Delano Potgieter (58no) then shared in a positive 73-run sixth-wicket stand, before Kuhn was trapped lbw by Duane Olivier, with the score on 216 for six.

Shaylin Pillay (10) was then caught behind by keeper Ryan Rickleton off the bowling of Lutho Sipamla on the stroke of tea, to leave Potgieter, who had brought up a fighting half-century, to try negotiate a tough final session with the tail.

Earlier in the match, having been set a massive 397 to win late in the afternoon on Saturday’s day three, the Dragons had reached the close of play on 56 for two, with Wesley Marshall (56) and Nicky van den Bergh (23) resuming their innings on Sunday morning.

Van Den Bergh then fell early, bowled by Sisanda Magala, bringing Muthusamy in to join Marshall, and they set about a confident 63-run fourth-wicket partnership.

But on the stroke of lunch, the Dragons suffered a hammer blow when Marshall, who had brought up a controlled and well-deserved half-century, was caught by Malusi Siboto off the bowling of Fortuin, to set them back.

WARRIORS SEAL SUPERB COME-FROM-BEHIND WIN OVER DOLPHINS

The Dafabet Warriors duly cleaned up the final four Hollywoodbets Dolphins wickets after lunch, to bowl the visitors out for 202 in their second innings, to seal a come-from-behind 69-run win in their Division One CSA 4-Day Series match at St George’s Park in Gqeberha on Sunday.

The Dolphins had reached lunch in a precarious position on 158 for six, still needing 114 runs to win, and started the afternoon session very well, which would have set off a few nerves in the Warriors camp.

Jason Smith (37) and Andile Phehlukwayo (24no) resumed after the break and extended their seventh-wicket stand to 40 runs, as they moved the score onto 197, setting up a possible positive result for themselves.

However, Ziyaad Abrahams then had Smith caught by Wihan Lubbe, which sparked a collapse as the Dolphins' last four wickets tumbled for just five runs, as Abrahams also removed Eathan Bosch (2), while Beyers Swanepoel ended the game with a bang, bowling Daryn Dupavillon (1) and Ottneil Baartman for a first-ball duck.

In the end, it was a fantastic come-from-behind win for the Warriors, who had been bowled out in their first innings for 166 on day one, with the Dolphins replying with 285 all out to take a 119-run lead.

A Diego Rosier century then powered the Warriors to 390 in their second innings, setting the Dolphins a victory target of 271, with the visitors reaching the close of play on day three on 71 for three.

Sarel Erwee (28) and Odirile Modimokoane (22) then resumed the innings in the morning, with Erwee out in the first over of the day as he was caught by Rosier off the bowling of Swanepoel, as they slipped to 71 for four.

Nightwatchman Modimokoane and Khaya Zondo (31) then shared in a 48-run stand for the fifth wicket, before Modimokoane was caught by Lesiba Ngoepe off the bowling of Lubbe.

Zondo and Smith added 38 for the sixth wicket, with Zondo then trapped lbw by Tsepo Ndwandwa, with the Dolphins on 157 for six, followed by Smith and Phehlukwayo getting them through to lunch.
