An incredible CSA T20 Challenge match between World Sports Betting Western Province and the Momentum Multiply Titans ended in an incredible rain-affected tie after a superb effort from allrounder David Wiese stunned the Cape side at the Wanderers in Johannesburg on Saturday afternoon.

After the Titans struggled to a below par 147/7 batting first, Province were well on their way to what should have been an easy win thanks to half centuries from openers David Bedingham, 50 off 32 balls (4x4, 3x6) and Eddie Moore, 55 off 52 (5x4, 1x6), in a 92-run opening-wicket stand.

But Wiese, who was only introduced into the bowling attack in the 12th over, had other plans with him going on to claim brilliant figures of 4-20 in four overs which proved to almost be a match winning effort for his side.

With a thrilling final over set up, with Province on 138/6 needing 10 to win or nine for a super over, the rain then had the final say, pouring down and ending the match, which saw it ruled as a tie.

Earlier the Province chase got off to the perfect start thanks to Bedingham and Moore as they scored 47 in the powerplay and took their side to 85/0 at the halfway point well ahead of the run rate required.

However, Wiese entered the attack and made the vital breakthrough as he had Bedingham, who had just reached a fully deserved fifty, caught by Dayyaan Galiem, and in his next over caught Kyle Verreynne (6) off his own bowling as Province slipped to 109/2.

Tabraiz Shamsi was next up to make major inroads as the Titans crash continued, with Tony de Zorzi (2) caught going for a big shot by Junior Dala on the boundary in the 15th over

The massive wicket of Moore then followed as Shamsi took a smart juggling catch off his own bowling to leave the Titans in a spot of bother on 119/4 in the 17th.

George Linde (17) and Abdullah Bayoumy (5*) tried to get their side into a winning position as they added 19 to the score.

But Wiese clinched two massive wickets with the last two balls of his spell, having Linde caught by Dala and Onke Nyaku caught for a first-ball duck off by sub fielder Aya Gqamane, which proved crucial as the rain arrived to end the match.

TITANS BATSMEN KEPT IN CHECK

At the start of play Province won the toss and chose to bowl, with their decision vindicated as an impressive all-round effort kept the Titans in check throughout their innings, with Wayne Parnell, 2-23, Beuran Hendricks, 2-23, and Linde, 2-25, the pick of the bowlers.

The Titans were given a strong start by SA U19 star Lhuan-dre Pretorius, who struck 37 off 23 balls (5x4, 1x6), while Neil Brand, 39* off 26 (1x4, 2x6) got hold of a few towards the end of the innings, but with little other assistance from the rest of the batting order they were unable to reach a big total.

The Titans' innings got off to a decent start thanks to Pretorius, who was the aggressor in a solid 50-run opening partnership with Josh van Heerden (17), as they scored 49 in the powerplay.

The first over after it brought the breakthrough as Pretorius edged a ball from Kyle Simmonds onto his thigh, with it ballooning up for keeper Verreynne to run around and take a good catch.

Three overs later, Van Heerden’s difficult innings came to an end after he couldn’t hit a single boundary in his 23 balls, with him caught by Parnell off the bowling of Linde.

He was followed two balls later by Rivaldo Moonsamy, who had looked good in hitting four boundaries in his 12-ball 20, only to edge to keeper Verrynne as they slipped to 76/3 in the 10th over.

Sibonelo Makhanya (9) and Brand tried to steady things with a 19-run stand, but Parnell was the next to claim a double strike as he had Makhanya caught by Moore and Galiem out for a first-ball duck, caught by Hendricks, as they fell to 95/5 in the 14th over.

Wiese (2) barely troubled the scorers before he was caught behind by Verreynne off Hendricks, leaving them on 103/6 in the 16th over.

Aaron Phangiso (16) provided a bit of support to Brand as they combined for a 39-run seventh wicket partnership, only to fall in the last over caught by Verreynne off Hendricks.
