Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Thursday announced the 15-player South Africa A (SA ‘A’) squads for the multi-format tour against Sri Lanka A from 31 August - 18 September.

World Sports Betting wicketkeeper batter Kyle Verreynne will captain the 50-over side, while Momentum Multiply Titans batter Neil Brand will lead the four-day squad.

The internationally experienced Verreynne is joined by Proteas batter Tony de Zorzi and allrounder Andile Phehlukwayo, as well as his Western Province teammate David Bedingham.

Western Province allrounder Mihlali Mpongwana, who is currently captaining the SA Emerging Men’s side against Zimbabwe Emerging, has been named in both squads, along with Dafabet Warriors batter Matthew Breetzke, Titans batter Dewald Brevis, and DP World Lions pace pair Lutho Sipamla and Codi Yusuf.

The squads were selected by white-ball head coach Rob Walter and test head coach Shukri Conrad, with Conrad overseeing the tour.

“Both squads were selected based on strong domestic performances and with one eye on the future, considering players who could potentially challenge for spots in the ODI and test squads down the line,” commented Conrad.

“This tour presents a great opportunity for Kyle, who has demonstrated his capabilities as a captain by successfully leading Western Province to the domestic 50-over title last season.

“Neil did a great job leading South Africa in the two-match test series against New Zealand earlier this year. He displays the necessary leadership qualities and has the game to back that up.”

The tour will get underway with three one-day matches in Potchefstroom from 31 August - 04 September, followed by two four-day matches in Kimberley (08 - 11 September) and Benoni (15 - 18 September).

SA ‘A’ and Sri Lanka A played against each in the subcontinent last June, and Conrad anticipates the upcoming tour on home soil to be highly competitive.

“We want to create a culture of winning, and I think it will be a competitive tour against Sri Lanka. They are a tough opposition, and while they are strong in their home conditions, they continue to improve in foreign conditions. We expect a tightly contested series,” concluded Conrad.
