Day 3 wrap: Knights crush Rocks; WP, Lions, Titans eye wins

The ITEC Knights won by nine wickets as they chased 39 runs to win their CSA 4-Day Franchise Series encounter against the Gbets Rocks on day three at Boland Park.

Monde Maqunqu took six wickets as the Rocks were restricted to 319 as they could only manage a lead of 39 runs for the Knights to chase.

Imran Manack struck in the opening over for the Rocks as he bowled Patrick Kruger out for a duck, but the deficit was easily chased with Pite van Biljon (23*) and Raynard van Tonder (15*) combining to see the Knights clinch a nine-wicket victory.

The Rocks continued their innings on 230-4 after tea as Clyde Fortuin led from the front with his second first-class century.

Earlier on, Fortuin's century went in vain as the Rocks were bundled out for 319.

The Rocks lost two wickets shortly after tea as Ferisco Adams was trapped for one and Hlomla Hanabe got a fine edge behind for one.

Then Fortuin shared a 62-run stand with Shaun Von Berg (32*) before Aubrey Swanepoel caught and bowled him for 133 off 208 balls (hitting 11 fours).

Wickets tumbled around Von Berg as Maqunqu grabbed six wickets for 82 as the Rocks were bundled out for 319 all out in Paarl.

WESTERN PROVINCE LOSE HAMZA AS THEY CHASE AGAINST WARRIORS

The Six Gun Grill Western Province are 129-3 at stumps on day three of their CSA 4-Day Franchise Series and need 210 runs to win against the Dafabet Warriors at Newlands.

Western Province lost opener Jonathan Bird early as Glenton Stuurman got him caught for five.

Resuming on 60-1 after tea, an 80-run stand formed between Edward Moore and Zubayr Hamza before Ziyaad Abrahams struck.

Moore was trapped on the legs for LBW and given out off the bowling of Abrahams for 38.

Hamza brought up back-to-back half-centuries as he made 51 off 79 balls (hitting three fours and sixes) before Stuurman bowled him.

Kyle Verreynne remains unbeaten on 24 and George Linde is on 11 not out, as they need 210 runs to win.

Earlier on, Glenton Stuurman's 38 and Matthew Breetzke's 32 helped extend the Warriors' lead as they were bundled out for 184 and set Western Province 339 runs to win.

LIONS AIM TO CHASE SUCCESS IN ORDER TO UPSET LOG-LEADERS

The DP World Lions need 229 runs to beat the Hollywoodbets Dolphins as they sit on 64-1 at stumps on day three of their CSA 4-Day Franchise Series encounter.

Thando Ntini took the only wicket that fell in the final session as he trapped LBW Joshua Richards for two.

Dominic Hendricks (32*) and Kagiso Rapulana (30*) will resume for the Lions on day four as they need a further 229 runs to win in Potchefstroom.

The Dolphins resumed after tea on 169-4 as Evan Jones picked up a five-wicket haul.

The visitors were bundled out for 222, giving the Lions a chase of 293 to win against the CSA 4-Day Franchise Series log-leaders.

A 111-run partnership between Khaya Zondo and Jason Smith steadied the Dolphins as they extended their lead.

Zondo was caught behind for 63 off the bowling of Jones and it wasn't long before a mini-collapse formed for the Dolphins as they once sat on 196-5 to 222 all out.

Jones picked up the wickets of Smith out for 59 off 78 balls (hitting eight fours), Eathan Bosch (13) and Daryn Dupavillion (9) and soon after wickets continued to tumble.


TITANS LOOK SET FOR AN EASY WIN OVER NORTH WEST DRAGONS

The Momentum Multiply Titans are on 53-0 at stumps on day three of the CSA 4-Day Franchise Series encounter and need 137 runs to win against the North West Dragons in Pretoria on Tuesday.

A 53-run unbeaten partnership between Neil Brand and Modiri Litheko has put the Titans on the path to a vital win.

Brand (17*) and Litheko (29*) will resume on day four, with the Titans only needing 137 runs for the vital win that could place them at the top of the log.

Resuming after tea on 263-6, JP King top-scored with 92 as the North West Dragons were bundled out for 260.

Muthusamy and King's partnership escalated to 117 runs before Mathew Boast picked up his second wicket.

Boast obliterated Muthusamy's middle stump out of the ground as the allrounder departed for 62 off 104 balls (hitting eight fours).

Then, Duan Jansen put on a 52-run stand with King before Jansen was trapped LBW for 30 by Brand.

Boast ended with three wickets for 62 alongside Junior Dala and Brand, who picked up to wickets apiece.
