Suryakumar Yadav’s impeccably paced innings of 71 not out from 54 balls at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Tuesday led the Mumbai Indians to a resounding six-wicket victory in their Qualifier match against the Chennai Super Kings and a place in the IPL final.

Full Scorecard

Chasing just 132 for victory Yadav ignored the fall of wickets at the other end while striking 10 fours on his way to a match-winning innings.

Excellent work from the Mumbai bowlers and some poor shot selection saw the Chennai Super Kings struggle to a total of 131 for four after opting to bat first.

Ambati Rayudu (42 not out from 37 balls) battled to keep the middle order together after the cheap demise of the top three batsmen inside the Power Play starting with Faf du Plessis (6), who cut legspinner Rahul Chahar to backward point at the start of the third over.

Fellow opener Shane Watson (10) mistimed a pull shot to mid-on and Suresh Raina (5) chipped a return catch to offspinner Jayant Yadav.

Murali Vijay struggled to 26 from as many deliveries before a ripping leg break from Chahar had him well stumped by Quinton de Kock to leave the Super Kings in trouble on 65 for four after 12 overs.

Captain MS Dhoni yet again threatened to change the course of the innings in the closing moments with three sixes in the last two overs and was given a life when he sliced the first ball of the final over from Jasprit Bumrah to backward point only for the delivery to be called a no-ball. But the rest of the over was excellent and cost just eight runs.

Dhoni finished unbeaten on 37 from 29 balls, but the bowlers dominated on an extremely spin-friendly pitch with Chahar to the fore with 2-14 from his four overs.

Mumbai openers Rohit Sharma (4) and De Kock (8) were dismissed cheaply but Suryakumar found a capable ally in Ishan Kishan (28) and, despite Imran Tahir claiming two wickets in two balls to reduce the innings from 101 for two to 101 for four, victory was achieved comfortably with nine balls to spare.

The Mumbai Indians now have four days to rest before Sunday's final while the Super Kings will play again on Friday against the winners of Wednesday’s Eliminator match between the Sunrisers Hyderabad and the Delhi Capitals.
