The first one-day international between India and South Africa was washed out without a ball being bowled at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala on Thursday.

The only break in the persistent rain came in the hours before the scheduled start but even then the umpires ruled that the outfield was too wet to start. However, the rain returned before the scheduled toss and never relented.

India and South Africa will try again on Sunday where the second ODI is scheduled for Lucknow with the third match due to take place at Eden Gardens in Kolkata next Wednesday.
